Endangered Species Expedition

Description

Begin your Costa Rica experience by exploring the Arenal Volcano, Venado Caves, and La Fortuna waterfalls! The adventure continues as students learn about unique species of endangered frogs, butterflies, and monkeys, and navigate the cloud forest canopy of Monteverde on an exhilarating ziplining tour. Throughout the program students will be learning about biodiversity, habitat sustainability and human impact. Students then travel from mountains to sea to the Manuel Antonio National Park, where they’ll observe Howler and Capuchin monkeys that call the park home. Snorkeling in the reefs and exploring the marine life give students the complete Costa Rica experience!

Itinerary (Sample Itinerary)

Red eye flight to Costa Rica Group is met by Scholastic Expeditions upon arrival in Costa Rica  Lunch on the road to Arenal – Enjoy Costa Rican cooking Check into Hotel 
Hike through the lava flows of this active volcano  and become a volcanologist for a day! Community Service or Eco-Farm – Visit with Costa Rican  students at a local school. Learn about their culture and their day-to-day living and learning  environments. Alternatively, work on an eco-farm and learn about sustainable farming Arenal  Volcanic Hot Springs - Spend the evening relaxing in the natural hot springs Nighttime Volcanic  Observation
Boat across Lake Arenal Lunch in Tilaran Frog Pond - Study many  unique species of frogs and learn about the adaptation each has made to thrive in their specific  environment 
An exhilarating zipline trip through the cloud forest canopy Depart  for San Jose Butterfly Garden - Spend the afternoon learning about different species of butterflies  and their amazing biology Leisure time in beautiful Santa Elena

Participate in a mangrove tour along the Tempisque River  Rainmaker Plantation – Embark on an inspiring tour of a private rain forest complete with  hanging bridges and natural swimming holes 
Hike through this spectacular park and observe Howler and  Capuchin monkeys that call the park home Snorkel Tour - A dinner time cruise to snorkel near  the reefs and explore the marine life. On most trips, you will see dolphins swimming in the boat’s  wake, and feeding on the amazing California Flying Fish 
Traverse several different ecosystems while viewing Costa Rican wildlife  along the banks of the river Depart for San Jose, Costa Rica Farewell Dinner
